ABC for Students — Mon-Cre Telephone Cooperative

The Alabama Broadband Connectivity for Students program

What is it?

The state of Alabama has launched the ABC for Students program to help eligible students pay for internet service through the end of the year.

Who is eligible?

Alabama households with students who are qualified and enrolled in the National School Lunch Program through their school will receive a voucher to pay for broadband internet service through Dec. 30, 2020.

If you have received a voucher in error, please destroy it. The vouchers are intended for students who are eligible for the National School Lunch Program. It is important to know that some schools receive free lunch for 100% of their students because that school has been designated as a community eligible school for the National School Lunch Program. That does not mean every student at that school meets the eligibility requirements for the National School Lunch Program. By using a voucher, you are confirming that you meet the income requirements of the National School Lunch Program, which is limited to households earning $48,470 or less for a family of four. Please do not use this voucher if your household is not income eligible for the National School Lunch Program. Your attention to this will help ensure that households that need help connecting will receive it.

How does it work?

Funded by $100 million from the federal CARES Act, these vouchers for broadband service will be delivered through the mail. They will be accompanied by a list of broadband providers who serve the area.

Families simply contact the provider of their choice to arrange installation of internet equipment and service.
